The Last Thing On My Mind ist wohl das am meisten gecoverte Stück von Tom Paxton. Hierzulande fast unbekannt, ist Tom Paxton in den USA eine bekannte Größe in der Folk-Szene. Für sein Konzert in der Carnegie-Hall in NY sollen die Karten innerhalb von 2 Stunden ausverkauft gewesen sein. Tom Paxton hat bisher etwa 40 eigene Alben veröffentlicht und mehrere Hundert Songs geschrieben.
Er ist in den USA auch als Kinderbuchautor bekannt und wurde bereits zweimal für den Grammy nominiert.
Tom Paxton steht in der Tradition der politisch linksgerichteten, sozialkritischen Folk-Bewegung, wie sie etwa von Woody Guthrie und Pete Seeger repräsentiert wird. Neben romantischen Liebesliedern machen Songs mit politischer Aussage den Großteil seines Werkes aus, von der Bewegung gegen den Vietnamkrieg in den 60er Jahren bis hin zum Kampf gegen die Bush-Regierung und die religiöse Rechte am Beginn des 21. Jahrhunderts.
